Automatic Door Bottoms

A more effective seal can be realized by using an automatic door bottom. The automatic door bottom housing is either surface mounted or mortised into the bottom edge of the door. When the door is in opened position, the bottom seal is held retracted inside the housing. When the door is closed, an activator rod is depressed at the hinge side, resulting in the seal dropping across the entire width of the opening. Not recomanded for sliding doors.

Furnished with full internal vinyl wiper seal.

Note: Fire labeling for the 411A, 420A, and the 4131 is only valid when door construction is approved for mortise.

Door Bottoms or Shoes

Ideally a threshold will leave a clearance between itself and the bottom of the door of approximately 1/8". When a saddle type threshold is used, this gap can be sealed by the use of an aluminum and Neoprene strip. The strip is intalled so as to clear the floor but contact the bevel or top of threshold. The strip also may have a drip cap incorporated into the extrusion.

Another type of bottom seal uses a vinyl or neoprene strip in an extrusion attached underneath the door. The shape of the extrusion may be such so as to fasten only to the bottom of the door, the bottom and outside face or completely house the door bottom. It also may have an integral drip cap.

Little if any adjustment is possible therefore extreme care must be taken to provide the correct seal.
